GI Follow-on Project: Learning Me

After the Generation Innovation Work Experience Programme in June this year, Jasmine partnered up with Catalyst Community member, Learning Me to take part in a Follow-on Project. Read more below to find out how they got on!

Tell us about your amazing follow-on project!

(Jasmine) I was given the amazing opportunity to work with Nicole and Bernard, within this project I had to translate the Understanding Me dialogue into Irish, I then done voiceovers for the translations so that they could have them in audio format. I done these translations at home, and when doing the audio voiceovers I went to the catalyst building once a week and done the voiceovers in a recording box. I loved coming in each time and doing something that I loved knowing it would benefit lots of young people.

(Learning Me) Jasmine was in one of our GI teams and when I explained our company vision of one day having our product translated into Irish, she approached me and asked to be considered for this type of work as she would like experience in it. I was really impressed with her initiative and spoke with my co-founder about offering Jasmine some paid work to translate and record voice overs for the Irish version of our wellbeing platform for schools. After speaking with Carolyn and getting put in contact with Jasmine, I set up a call with her to explore how we could work together. She came back into Catalyst 4 times to work with me on translating and recording voiceovers.

Why was it important for you to get involved in this follow-on opportunity?

(J) It was important for me to get involved in this opportunity because of my love and passion for the Irish language. I thought that the Learning Me company was a very impressive and an amazing company, however I felt that Irish speaking schools weren’t able to receive the full benefit from the site. Therefore, I felt by having this opportunity, not only was I able to gain an amazing experiencing from working with Nicole in and outside of the office, but I also played a part in making this platform more accessible for Irish speakers.

(LM) I wanted to reward Jasmine's initiative and bravery in seizing an opportunity and as an educational company, inspiring and giving opportunities to young people fits with our values and ethos.

What did you want to gain by reconnecting with the GI alumni/ Partner Company?

(J) By reconnecting with Learning Me, I wanted to gain the experience of working in a self made business and also within an office. I gained knowledge on the behind the scenes work that goes into creating and maintaining a business like this and i have a newfound respect and I am inspired by those who put in such hard work to building their brand.

(LM) Aside from enjoying collaborating with Jasmine, we gained expertise and talent that wasn't already in our company. Jasmine was very teachable and responsive to feedback so working with her was a dream!

What were the highlights or unexpected wins from your time spent working on this project?

(J) The highlights of this project were going into the Catalyst office once a week and using a mic and a recording box to do the voiceovers. I also enjoyed meeting with Nicole each time and working on this project together. I am grateful for the support she gave me along the way and also for the opportunity to use my Irish for something amazing.

(LM) I was delighted that Jasmine was up for recording voiceovers as initially we thought it may be the translation only but she was very keen to experience this as well. I was able to show her how to edit and upload her recordings and she picked it up really quickly and worked independently as well as seeking support as apt.

How has this impacted your journey?

(J) This experience has allowed me to gain a new insight into the background works on companies and has allowed me to feel that it is possible for anyone to do anything they put their minds to. This project has influenced me to speak up more when I have an idea, as doing so has led me to this experience which I am thoroughly grateful for. This experience has also influenced me to continue to use my Irish for similar projects and I am excited to see where the next one will bring me.

Looking back, how has your collaboration with Generation Innovation grown in scope and impact, and what’s next for this dynamic partnership.

(LM) We found the GI WEP to be a rewarding experience and we didn't know we would get such value-added benefits from it thanks to the follow-on project. We're hoping to wrap up the build of our platform and to get it into schools, including Irish-Medium schools, so that pupils can avail of wellbeing tools and activities.
